Percussion - Waco, TX / Colorado Springs, CO
Thomas came to music scene rather late than many current music educators. After mastering the drumset on the rhythm game Rock Band, Thomas turned his sights to concert and marching percussion his freshman year of high school.
It didn't take long for Thomas to establish himself as a dominant force in the Colorado percussion scene. In just 4 months of his study with Jess Quintana, he jumped 25 chairs to make the Liberty High School Wind Ensemble. And since then, he hasn't looked back.
By the time Thomas graduated high school, he had succesfully auditioned and performed at Disneyland, the Tournament of Roses Parade, Rise Percussion, Colorado All-State Band, Orchestra, Choir, CU Honor Band, and the Colorado Springs All-City Wind Ensemble. He graduated from Liberty as recipient of the John Philip Sousa Award.
Thomas currently studies Music Education at Baylor University - currently one of the most renowned music schools in the United States. Studying and performing under the likes of Dr. Todd Meehan, Dr. Isaiah Odajima, and Arlo Shultis, Thomas has grown into a versatile and renowned young percussionist both in Waco and the Colorado Front Range. He plays bass 2 in the Baylor Golden Wave Band, is a regular drummer for the Baylor Courtside Players, and is active in Baylor's concert and chamber ensembles
He made his educational debut in 2022 with Littleton HS and Liberty HS during the summer and on occasion during the fall season. With his help, both percussion sections received much acclaim. Both ensembles were CBA 4A State Finalists - which was a first-ever accomplishment for Littleton.
Thomas plans to return to Littleton and Liberty for the 2023 season in addition to several new schools in South Denver and Waco. SMA is ecstatic to have him as a returning staff member, and we can't wait to get him started with your schools in Colorado and Texas!
